Lessons from your older relatives

Growing up in the Texas, we were raised to respect our elders. You honor them for their lives, their time spent in defending this country. You were told to listen them.

At a dinner party last night, a new friend told us that the days of sitting down and communicating with your kids was over. This will be one of our society's greatest miss-takes unless we unplug and start talking within our families.

To the elderly and infirmed, we should not treat you like children, tell you what to eat and strip of your respect. Right now, you probably want to feel valued, not debased.

Dignity can come in many forms, but let us strive to renew your dignity by soliciting the many stories and life lessons that you have personally experienced. Let's make every visit a history class filled with topics that will make our brains soar with laughter, energy and pureness.

Six Miss-takes of Life

There are six miss-takes of life that many of us make, said a famous writer, and then he gave the following list:
1. The delusion that individual advancement is made by crushing others down.
2. The tendency to worry about things that can not be changed or corrected.
3. Insisting that a thing is impossible because we ourselves can not accomplish it.
4. Refusing to set aside trivial preferences in order that that important things may be accomplished.
5. Neglecting development and refinement.
6. The failure to establish the habit of saving money.

While part of this may seem old fashioned, maybe this old fashioned thinking is the very foundation that may be missing from many lives today.

Be easy on yourself when it comes to miss-takes

Ok, so we are in the middle of a stressful time as individuals and as a country. Let's take a proper perspective on making miss-takes.

1. When you make a miss-take, and Lord knows you are going to, hit your pause button, and put your oops into perspective. Remember other miss-takes you have made and how you've grown through those.

2. Talk to your life coach, if you have one. If you don't, find one fast. Their moral support and undying love for you is invaluable.

3. As maturely as possible, acknowledge your lousy feelings and personal disappointment with your faux pas. Don't beat yourself up relentlessly. Experience the trauma, and bounce back...faster and smarter.

4. Ask your boney self....what will I do differently next time? Change as a result of the miss-take and don't miss it next time.

"Your misstake does not define you who you are- you are your possibilities."

One of the best miss-takes I've made is trying to climb the corporate ladder and then finding out that silly ladder was leaning up against the wrong wall.

You simply can't miss the opportunity to grow professionally during the precious time that God grants you. If you choose to work for a corporation, be very careful about who you choose to spend 70+ hours per week with.

Best Misstakes

Welcome to my blog site that focuses on lessons learned from miss-takes. We spell miss-takes this way because we think people should not miss their mistakes and always continously learn from their errors.

No one's perfect...right?

Tell us some of your best miss-takes and what lessons you learned? Could be related to work, home life, marriage, sports, or just life in general. Wouldn't it great to learn from others?
